Vice President Directly Monitoring the Search for Avalanche Victims in West Bandung

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WEST BANDUNG -- Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka reviewed the landslide site in Kampung Pasir Kuning, Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java on Sunday (25/1/2026). He directly monitored the search process for victims of landslides.

Based on Republika's monitoring, Gibran arrived at the landslide site around 9:30pm accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human and Cultural Development Pratikno, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono.

Then Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, Chief Basarnas RI Marshal Madya TNI Mohammad Syafii, Chief Jabar Irjen Rudi Setiawan, Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan and Regent and Vice Regents of Bandung Jeje Ritchie Ismail and Asep Ismal.

Gibran directly monitored the progress of the search process for the victims of the landslide that occurred on Saturday (24/1/2026). He also had a chance to talk to the families of the victims who are still waiting for their relatives to be found. In the presence of the residents, Gibran assured the government would be serious about searching for the hoarded victims.

All were carried out for 24 hours so that the victims could be found immediately. It is estimated that there are still dozens of unaccounted victims because at the time of the devastating incident, 30 houses were flattened.

“Just now I checked the location, we continue to try to find the victims of this incident,” Gibran said on Sunday (25/1/2025).

Gibran asked the West Java Provincial Government and West Bandung Municipality to take care of the health especially of elderly people, people with disabilities, nursing mothers, women, and children. Make sure that the entire diet is adequate and also healthy so that it can be checked periodically.

“Health workers have to be there and on target,” he said.

In addition, Gibran called on the local government to immediately prepare relocation grounds for residents whose homes were destroyed. The relocation site should not be far from their former home so that later activities can be carried out easily. “Immediately socialize for this relocation,” he said.

Meanwhile joint officers are still conducting searches of the victims. The search is carried out manually. Two heavy equipment has also been deployed to the site.
