Indonesian national team player Ole Romeny performs pinalti kick execution during match against China in 2026 World Cup Qualifying Round Third Round match at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, Thursday (5/6/2025).
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian national team advanced to the third place in Group C of the Third Round of Qualifying for the 2026 World Cup Asia Zone. This was after Garuda's squad defeated China 1-0 in a match at the Gelora Bung Karno Utama Stadium (SUGBK) Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (5/6/2025)night.
The extra three points saw Indonesia now collect 12 points, displacing Saudi Arabia with 10. The new Saudi Arabia will play against Bahrain in the match starting at 23:00pm tonight.
Patrick Kluivert's side will ensure qualification for the fourth round of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers with Saudi Arabia representing Group C, should Bahrain lose or draw.
The only goal in the match witnessed by 69,661 spectators was scored by Ole Romeny through his penalty kick in the 44th minute.
Indonesia immediately hit the ground running from kick-off. The second minute, Ricky Kambuaya who was trusted as the starter kicked off the kick. However, his brace was still too weak and went wide to the side of the Chinese goal.
Fifth minute, China launched a swift counterattack. Wang Yudong unleashed a hard kick that was also still wide.
