REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Muhammadiyah charity is growing in Australia. Recently, the Victorian State Government approved the granting of A$3.6 million (IDR 38 billion) in funding to Muhammadiyah Australia College (MAC). The support was provided as part of the local government's commitment to improving inclusive and multicultural education in the state.
Located at 1-3 Killarney Drive, Melton, Victoria, MAC is a primary school providing education from kindergarten to primary school. It also became the first Indonesian school to be established by the Muhammadiyah Central Authority and operate in Australia.
Muhammadiyah Muhammad Sayuti, the Central Executive Secretary (PP), explained that this assistance from the Victorian State Government will be used to support the development of school infrastructure and the improvement of learning facilities. In addition, it will also expand the capacity of student accommodation in MAC.
“This support is a form of recognition of the contribution of Muhammadiyah in providing high-quality education and reflects the values of diversity,” Sayuti said, as quoted from a written statement received by Republika in Jakarta on Wednesday (30/4/2025).
He explained that the funds were not included in the regular assistance provided by the Victorian State Government to MAC, which by 2025 was provided with IDR 35 billion.
Sayuti said he was delighted by the local people's enthusiasm for the existence of MAC. Therefore, the leaders of the Special Branch of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) of Australia are now reviewing and pioneering the establishment of MAC II.
The school is planned to be located in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW). In this case, PCIM Australia will continue to collaborate with the Muhammadiyah NSW Special Branch Leadership.
"The potential of MAC II in NSW is quite high because of the good growth of the local and immigrant population," said Sayuti.
As a school that prioritizes the practice of good character (akhlakul karimah), MAC is appreciated by parents of students. Sayuti admitted that he often heard stories that parents found positive changes in their children who studied there.
He is also grateful that the universal nature of the Persyarikatan's da'wah and does not include a particular culture has ultimately been able to make Muhammadiyah accepted by people from various nations.
